Go back to your hut

Once upon a time… There was a fisherman who was desperately wretched. One day, he went to fish and his hook caught a very small fish after all his prolonged fishing labour. He decided to take the small fish home with an intention of giving it to his child. The fish then begged in human voice that he should return it to the river with a promise to fulfil his heart desires each time he came to the river. Out of perplexity, he threw the fish back into the river without asking for anything. He related the story to his wife upon getting home and the wife asked him to return to the river and request for wealth and riches. His request was granted at once… The trend of asking and receiving continues until one morning when he and his wife overslept. The wife then asked him to request for power over nature, so that irrespective of when they wake up, the sun will not disturb them. After many arguments he decided to go to the river bank with this stupid request but the fish reminded them of where ...

Unity is important

*A man, who regularly attended Community meetings suddenly without any notice stopped participating.* After a few weeks, one very cold night the leader of that Group decided to visit him. *He found the man at home, alone, sitting in front of a fireplace where a bright fire burned.* The man welcomed the Leader. There was a great silence. *The two Men only watched the dancing flames around the logs that crackled in the fireplace.* After a few minutes the Leader, without saying a word, examined the woods that formed the fire and selected one of them, glowing most brightly of all, removing it to the side with a pair of tongs. Then he sat down again. *The host was paying attention to everything, fascinated. Before long, the lone Member flame subsided, until there was only a momentary glow & the fire soon went out.* In a short time what was previously bright light and heat had become nothing more than a black & dead piece of wood. *Very few words had been spoken since the greeting.* ...

Always help people on your way up

It is more difficult to go up than it is to come down. Make provision when going up: A parachute to keep you afloat if you fall Or a foam to prevent you from crashing “In your journey up, take care of the people you meet on your way You may need them on your way down”

A rock of defense

A SURE ROCK OF DEFENSE   I once had a very loving and protective dog. My dog was so caring that no unknown person dare come close to me except with my permission.   One day, I returned from work and my wife called me and calmly requested that we should sell off the dog, so that it will not kill someone soon. I know, you can preempt my response from the description of my caring, loving and protective dog.   The accusations went on for long till I was left with no option than to release the dog before my family relationship is affected.   One day, I was inside, resting after a night duty when my wife screamed, daddy, come now quickly before your dog will kill someone.   I jumped out of my bed and rushed outside to witness what actually happened….   My wife invited a dog butcher to buy my dog. She was able to calm her(my dog) for the butcher to insert his chain on the dog’s neck. The dog became violent and scared all of them away.   Immediately my dog sig...

Cover them up

*COVER THEM UP INSTEAD OF EXPOSING THEM* After I had cleaned and tidied up my house, my brother phoned me and said, "My wife and I are coming to visit you." I went to my kitchen to prepare something for them, but I could not find anything available to serve them. After much thought and search, all I could lay my hands on were a few oranges. Therefore, I made two cups of cold juice immediately. When my brother and his wife arrived I was shocked to see his mother-in-law with them, who came to visit us for the first time. So I served the two cups of juice to his wife and her mother, and I placed a cup of water in front of my brother, saying, 'I know that you like 7Up.' He drank a sip and realised that it was water. And suddenly his mother-in-law said, I'm feeling for 7Up. Please give it to me! Here I was, baffled and caught up with embarrassment. But my brother saved me by saying to her, 'I will bring you a clean glass from the kitchen.' After a while we hear...

Don't look down on anyone

*IF THE WORLD TURNS UPSIDE DOWN, YOU MAY END UP CLEANING FOR YOUR CLEANER* *No Condition is Permanent* Shared by Foluke Akosile: In 2010 I was a senior manager in a nice firm, my future was bright in the company and I was highly recommended for head of my department. There was a rising star as well, his name is Jacob. I tutored him and tried to manage his excesses because he was exceptionally brilliant. But, he was lazy and carefree. Hardly would he take corrections and rarely would he apologise. My other colleagues wondered what I saw in him, but they weren’t working directly with him. I knew his type: he hated structure and would never last under a corporate environment. Still, he was a brilliant strategist. I handled him well and our results together with others on my team was highly commendable. There came a time I was having marital issues and for this reason, I had little patience with Jacob and his shenanigans. I was short-tempered with him but he had gotten used to me managing ...
