TOPIC: TURN TO THE RIGHT PERSON
Read: 1 Samuel 17:26-29
26 And David spake to the men that stood by
him, saying, What shall be done to the man that
killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the
reproach from Israel? for who is this
uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the
armies of the living God?
27 And the people answered him after this
manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man
that killeth him.
28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he
spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was
kindled against David, and he said, Why camest
thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left
those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy
pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou
art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
29 And David said, What have I now done? Is
there not a cause?
MEMORISE: Come to Me, all you who labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew
11:28).
EXPOSITION
The insult of the Philistines’ giant, Goliath, on the
army of Israel warranted the question asked by
David after he arrived at Elah. When his eldest
brother Eliab heard his questions, he tried to
shout him down, but David who knew what he
came to do in the battlefield, turned to other men
to get the true picture of what was happening
before his arrival, to see may be he could be of
help, as young as he was (1 Sam. 17:26-29).
Instead of turning off an important issue, turning
over to the reliable source does a great deal of
good. It is not enough for one to turn away from
God because someone has done something
unexpected. David was never discouraged with
the unexpectedly discouraging words from his
obviously overreacting and probably jealous
brother, but asked from the person who gave him
the needed information.
Those you turn to might have different
perspectives from you intention/motive,
sometimes, very negative. Don’t allow criticism or
mockery to stop the purpose of God for your life.
Do what is right.
Pharaoh dreamt, and his Egyptian magicians and
wise men could not tell him what it meant.
Pharaoh turned to Joseph (unknown to him that
he was actually turning to the YAHWEH of Joseph
Gen. 41:14-16) who interpreted the dream and
saved the nation from the disaster of a severe
famine.
Where all efforts fail, why don’t you turn to your
Maker? Come to Him and He will give you joy,
peace, rest and blessings.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, I look up to You; please send help tome
and hasten to my defence.
2. Go to God in an “Alone-with-God” mood, to tell
Him exactly where the shoes pinch you.
3. Father, make a way for as many as are in one
difficulty or the other, and grant them quick
intervention from above.
