Treat your children equally

He sat in court, holding his hand in his head and weeping quietly. Those around him looked at him in pity and those who did not know the reason for this, wondered why a grown man was weeping openly. For Mr. James Jackson, his life had just crumbled before him like a pack of cards. He who had two sons that were born on the same day, had suddenly become childless. Two years ago, the first of the twin was brutally murdered, while he was being inducted alongside others as a medical doctor. Today, the court sentenced his only surviving son and child to die by the hangman’s noose. Why? He had pulled the trigger that sent his twin brother and only sibling to his untimely grave. He murdered his own blood in cold blood. He had simply walked into the venue of the event, shot into the air to attract attention and walked over to where his brother was sitting. Whilst the poor twin brother looked at him in shock and confusion, he shot him point blank in the head. The death was instant. ...

*THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE* *Tuesday, August 28, 2018* *TOPIC: WATCH YOUR DECISIONS!* *Read: Hebrews 11:23-26* 23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment. 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. *MEMORISE:* But Ruth said: "Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God *(Ruth 1:16).* *EXPOSITION* Our decisions have lasting effects on us and many others. The decisions of the parents...

Don't keep malice in marriage

Just two years after our marriage, my husband brought up the idea of asking his Mother to move from the rural hometown and spend her remaining years with us. His father passed away while he was still very young. His mum endured much hardship and struggled all on her own to provide for him, see him through to the university. You could say that she suffered a great deal and did everything you could expect or imagine of a woman to bring hubby to where he is today. I immediately agreed and started preparing the spare room, which has a balcony facing the South to let her enjoy the sunshine and plant greenery. Hubby stood in the bright room, and suddenly, he lifted me up and started spinning round and round. As I begged him to put me down, he said: "Lets go fetch mother". Hubby is tall and big sized and I love to rest my head on his chest and enjoy the feeling that he could pick me up at any moment, put me as smallish as I am into his pocket. Whenever we have an argument and one...

THE LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE Sunday, August 26, 2018 TOPIC: TURN TO THE RIGHT PERSON Read: 1 Samuel 17:26-29 26 And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? 27 And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him. 28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle. 29 And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause? MEMORISE: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28)...

*THE LIVING WATER* *DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE* *Friday, August 24, 2018* *TOPIC: ASKING ARIGHT* *Read: 2 Chronicles 1:7-12* *MEMORISE: _Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us_ (1 John 5:14).* *EXPOSITION* There are several occasions when we ask from our omniscient Maker but receive nothing because we ask amiss *(Jas. 4:3). Our memory scripture reveals to us how we can receive whenever we ask from God–asking *_according to His will_ (1 Jn. 5:14).* The young King Solomon, in our text, recognised and appreciated that he had received great favour from the God of his father, David, as David’s successor out of the numerous brothers (v. 8). He was given the privilege to ask for anything he wanted (v. 7). He wisely asked in accordance with the will of his Maker, what was needed at that moment to carry out his God-given onerous task. He prayed an effective and efficient prayer. The character of people appear in ...

It is not my fault!!!

IT IS NOT MY FAULT! “NG please now,” Mike whispered as he tried to pull his sister Ngozi to face him on the bed. “You know mummy went to bed early and may soon get up for her mid night prayers.” he continued. “Michael leave me alone.” Ngozi almost shouted. “I have told you that I am on but you don’t want to hear. If we do anything now and the bed spread gets stained how do you explain that to mummy? Have you forgotten so soon how you almost let the cat out of the bag the other time something like that happened? I don’t know why you don’t like being reasonable at times! I have told you that we need to be cautious now that daddy is not at home because mummy leaves her bedroom door open and can come out any moment.” But Mike would not take no for an answer and continued pleading and tugging on Ngozi’s see-through pink night wear. Meanwhile Mrs. Ajo-ife suddenly woke from sleep and sat upright on her bed for no known ...

Please don't tell him

PLEASE DON’T TELL HIM! “Mummy, if I tell you something will you tell Uncle Fidelis?”, came the voice of 5 year old Brenda as she stood near her mum in the kitchen. Mrs. Jide, Brenda’s mum looked at her daughter curiously, quietly dropped the knife she was using to cut vegetables and stooped down to be at eye level with the kid as she quizzed: “what is it you want to tell me, my angel?” Brenda replied, “Mummy promise me that you will not tell uncle Fidelis because he said that if I tell you a big dragon with two heads will appear when I am sleeping at night and swallow me.” The mum said, “My sweet angel, don’t you trust me? I won’t tell him, just tell me what that thing is.” Little Brenda looked back and sideways as if to make sure that nobody was nearby then said in a low tone, “the other day you went out with Lara’s mummy, uncle Fidelis called me to his room and put one film for me to watch on his pho...
