Gossip has been defined as informed talk or stories about other people’s private lives that may be unkind, or always disapproving! Contrarily, the Gospel tells the Truth in entirety. Jesus birth, ministry, suffering, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension and Second Coming all summaries the total and true Gospel. Here is the story, and why I think the Church is back to where it was before the Martin Luther Reformation exactly 500 years ago. 1. Before 1517, everyone belonged to the Roman Catholic Church which was the official religion, with the Pope as the head. The Pope had the final say on all issues concerning religion. 2. Pope Leo X wanted to build a fanciful Church building called St. Peters Basilica in Rome. The building was going to cost him so much. Hence, he decided to raise money from the sale of purgatory. 3. Purgatory was invented by the Catholic Pope during the Crusades in order to get more men into the army. The pope claimed he could buy souls back from hell. Read Psalm 96:4-10 MEMORISE For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens (Psalms 96:5) EXPOSITION We serve the only God and not a god, or gods or goddesses! There is a distinction here. What makes God unequalled is His Omnipotence, Omniscience and Omnipresence. Apart from this, He is from eternity to eternity (v. 7). His immortality certainly puts Him above other gods. Of course, we are gods (small gods) (Psa. 82:6). We have our subjects. In fact, we are made to understand that all principalities, powers and host of hell/darkness are subject to true believers (Col. 17-19). We need no fruitless and needless mere academic exercise to proof God’s existence! He is not only in existence, but also immanent and sufficient. She was a very simple woman who had a lot of faith. She had lost several husbands and children due to sickness, and although she was a financially poor woman, she was rich in faith.
